Solanke scorpion kick caps Player of the Match performance against Man City

Mon 02 February 2026, 13:40|Tottenham Hotspur

Dominic Solanke was at the double to scoop your HSBC Player of the Match following our comeback 2-2 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The striker returned to the starting line-up after scoring off the bench against Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek and bagged both goals as we recovered from a two-goal deficit at the break to salvage a spirited point at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After welcoming Dom back from a four month injury lay-off in January, our number 19 has been amongst the goals in the UEFA Champions League in recent weeks and opened his league account to spark our fightback eight minutes after the restart in only his second top-flight start in five appearances so far this term.

Trailing 2-0 at the break to strikes from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo, the England international latched onto Xavi Simons' defence-splitting trivela pass before shrugging off Abdukodir Khusanov and got a touch on the ball as a recovering Marc Guehi tried to intervene to send it past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

If there was some slight doubt surrounding his first goal - initially down as a Guehi own-goal but then rightly credited to Dom - there could be no doubt around his quite sensational second when he produced yet another Spurs contender for goal of the season with a scorpion kick to equalise on the 70th minute.

Following great work from the industrious Conor Gallagher, who tenaciously won the 50/50 in midfield and sent a whipped cross from the right, Dom pulled out the acrobatics to back heel the ball from behind him and divert it over an outstretched Donnarumma to send supporters into a frenzy.

The 28-year-old was replaced by Jun'ai Byfield - making his Premier League debut - on 90 minutes and his effort, work-rate and battling performance was summed up by his grass stain-covered Lilywhite shirt as he exited the field to a huge ovation from the Spurs faithful.

In an exclusive vote held on the official Spurs App, Dom edged out the superb Xavi to pick up his first award of the campaign.
