Team news | Update on Bergvall and Udogie

Tue 30 December 2025, 15:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Thomas Frank is cautiously optimistic that Lucas Bergvall will be okay to play his part in our 2026 opener away at Brentford on New Year's Day, while Destiny Udogie is making good progress.

Midfielder Lucas was forced off last time out as we ran out 1-0 winners at Crystal Palace on Sunday - the Swede being substituted with 63 minutes gone after receiving treatment on the pitch.

However, Thomas Frank is positive that the midfielder will be fine for the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium this Thursday as we look to make the perfect start to the new year.

"Lucas is OK," he confirmed in his press conference on Tuesday afternoon. "I am quite positive that he'll be available, of course there is a small doubt, but quite possible he'll be available."

In terms of Destiny, our Italian full-back is making good progress and is getting closer to a return to the pitch.

The defender was ruled out until at least January earlier this month after he picked up a hamstring injury in our Premier League trip to Newcastle United at the start of December, but he is now back out on the grass and working towards his return.

"He is running out there on the pitch, doing individual sessions, so progressing and going forward so that's good," Thomas updated on our number three.

Finally, Cristian Romero will be back in contention to return to the side after serving his one-match suspension on Sunday, missing our victory at Palace.

Xavi Simons remains unavailable as he completes his three-match suspension. Long-term absentees Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison remain sidelined.
