On Tuesday (30 December) morning, Martin Ho welcomed his latest recruit as Hanna Wijk joined the Club.
Making a permanent move from Swedish side BK Häcken, the Swede became our second signing of the winter as we continue to build in N17.
Born and raised in Sweden, Hanna’s footballing journey began locally in 2013 in Lerum, a town in the mid-west of the Scandinavian nation, near Gothenburg, as she developed her skills first with Floda BoIF before joining Lerum IS, where she captained the side.
A full-back by trade, adept on the left or right, she stayed in Lerum until 2020, the defender then earned a move to Kopparbergs/Goteborg – a side which a year later would rebrand to BK Häcken.
Also picking up experience playing for the Sweden national youth teams throughout her development, she linked up with Häcken's Under-19s side when she arrived in Sweden’s second City, Gothenburg, as a 16-year-old. However, it wasn’t long until she was given her chance within the first team.
Having scored on her non-competitive debut in the pre-season, finding the back of the net in a friendly with Norwegian side Valerenga, her debut in the Damallsvenskan came on 10 July, 2020, as she came on a substitute in a 4-0 win over Vaxjo on Matchday Three of the new season when she was still aged just 16.
The full-back went to make on 20 appearances in total for the senior side that season as BK Häcken went on to win their first Damallsvenskan title under their new name – helping her side to the title alongside Anna Csiki, who is currently on loan at West Ham. She also featured twice in the UEFA Champions League, with both appearances coming in the round of 16 tie with Manchester City.
She made a played a further 22 games the following season which included three in the Svenska Cup as Häcken also went on to collect their first title in that competition under their new identity.
With the majority of her first years in Gothenburg seeing her being used mostly as a substitute, by the age of 18, she became a regular in the starting XI for the team in yellow and black and started to appear in over 30 games a season, which included further appearances in the Champions League as Häcken reached the competition quarter-finals in 2024.
Producing 12 assists in the league the following campaign as she led the assists charts, last term, she enjoyed one her strongest seasons to date. Taking further leadership responsibilities, the then 21-year-old made 30 appearances across all competitions, which included 25 in the Damallsvenskan as Häcken secured their second top-flight title.
