'Thanks for sticking with me' - Johnson's gratitude to supporters

Wed 13 March 2024, 17:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Brennan Johnson feels our fans have played a key role in him finding his groove in Lilywhite.

A deadline day arrival from boyhood club Nottingham Forest in September, Brennan had endured something of a slow start to his Spurs career by his standards with just one goal in his first 17 appearances for the Club.

However, over the last few weeks, things have certainly started to click for the Welshman in north London with three goals coming in his last six games, while he has also ticked over into double figures for goal contributions this term - the latest of which came in Sunday's 4-0 win over Aston Villa with the forward crashing home our second of the afternoon.

Scoring such a goal in such an important game for us clearly meant a lot to Brennan, as highlighted in his post-match chat with SPURSPLAY, but what was more pertinent to the forward was to put on record his thanks to our supporters who stuck by him from day one and have continued to be in his corner as he has found his feet in N17.

I’m buzzing for all the fans who stuck with me and always gave me so much confidence - a big thank you to them.

Reflecting on the win at Villa Park, Brennan said: "There was a lot of build up to the game and big it was in terms of teams fighting for the same thing but, for us, it was just about performing and trying to stick to what we do, because when we play like that, we feel like we can beat anyone.

"I felt like that was deserved, our pressure was unbelievable, especially for that second goal, nicking the ball and once we do that we get into really good positions because we always want to press, but we press with the intent to score. To do that today was really good and the guys at the back, playing a high line, nicking the ball, it just gives us the goals."

On his personal recent goalscoring form, our number 22 continued: "It's still not as many as I want, but to score in a game like that, especially at the time I scored, I’m buzzing, especially for all the fans who stuck with me and always gave me so much confidence, a big thank you to them."

And now, after that statement win in the West Midlands, Brennan admits there is a buzz about the squad and, as we quickly edge towards the final running, the group can't wait to get back on the pitch again with a trip to Fulham up next (Saturday 16 March - kick-off 5.30pm UK).

"We’re all really excited, especially when we play like this," he beamed. "But we know, at the same time, we have a tough away fixture next week at a place where (Fulham) can perform and they’ve put teams away, so we’ll take every positive we can from this game and try to build again."
