Ben and Rob on Palace under Glasner and players to watch...

Sat 02 March 2024, 09:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Club commentator Rob Daly and Ben Haines, presenter of Inside Spurs, The Warm Up and The Review Show take a look at Palace ahead of this afternoon's Premier League clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (3pm UK).

Talking tactics with Rob

"Oliver Glasner has had one game in charge, technically, but he was at the Everton game as well (a 1-1 draw at Goodison on 19 February) and they switched to 3-4-3 from Roy Hodgson's 4-4-2/4-2-3-1. They will use their wing-backs to get up and down the pitch and try to get technical players around the striker, so we're probably looking at Eberechi Eze and Jordan Ayew behind Jean-Philippe Mateta. The game will be quite condensed in the middle of the pitch. Glasner was at the Wolves game (17 February) that Spurs lost 2-1 and he'll look at that game, knowing his team will set up in the same way as Wolves, with three at the back. So, I think Palace will be quite similar in approach, sit deep and look to hit Spurs on the counter."

Ben's players to watch

"Jordan Ayew is the one to watch for me for Palace. He's quite tidy in there, capable of scoring great goals. He scored against us in our 2-1 win at Selhurst Park back in October, quite late, we were 2-0 up but that made the last few minutes a bit more tense. There was a call for handball and a VAR check, but the finish was unbelievable. For us, I'm going for James Maddison. We spoke about him on Inside Spurs as well. Maddison in the pocket, but whoever is around him needs to try to help free him up - against Wolves, they were sat so deep, the gaps between the lines were two, three metres, no room to operate. We need to find Maddison in those pockets so he can create. There's no Richarlison, he's out for a few weeks, so we're likely looking at Heung-Min Son through the middle, and Ange Postecoglou has a big decision wide with Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner - great options!"
