Matilda Vinberg: “I have settled in very well, it feels like I have been here for a long time | Matchday programme exclusive

Matilda Vinberg says it was a ‘big change’ to move overseas for the first time in her career, but is excited for the new challenge.

The 20-year-old Sweden international spent all her career in her home country, starting at Enskede IK, where she made her senior debut at the age of 15, and then three years at Hammarby IF before the attacking midfielder took the plunge to move to England and become a Lilywhite.

Now, after a few weeks of settling in at Hotspur Way, Matilda is full of praise for how her fellow teammates have helped her adapt and the impact Head Coach Robert Vilahamn made in her decision.

Speaking in an exclusive interview in the matchday programme for the visit of Manchester City, Matilda said: “It has been a big change, of course. Moving away from home and Sweden, it was a big step but it’s a challenge I think that will help me improve and be a better player - that’s why I am here.

“I have settled in very well so far. The girls have been really nice and it feels like I have been here for a long time, so that has been good. I have been here for around three weeks now, it has been a new environment and meeting new faces, but it feels like I have got to know everyone, and they have been treating me well.”

“Robert made a big impact on me,” Matilda said. “He was one of the main reasons on why I wanted to come here. Like I said before, with it being my first club overseas, it feels nice to have him as a coach and he knows me as a player. So, having him as a coach made my decision easier and helped me settle in.”
