Angharad James: “Playing at full-back has been a new challenge” | Matchday programme exclusive

Sat 13 January 2024, 15:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Angharad James says she is “thriving” in her new role under Robert Vilahamn so far this season.

The 29-year-old Welsh international has certainly played an integral part in a successful first half of the season under the Swedish manager, featuring in all our games this term and starting every Barclay’s Women’s Super League match.

However, despite her natural position being a midfielder throughout her career so far, Angharad has been tasked with a new role under Robert as a full-back and is enjoying the new challenge, while being full of praise for the football being played.

The style of football we are playing here now really suits my game. I like to be on the ball and try to dictate play as much as possible.

Speaking in an exclusive interview in the matchday programme for the visit of Sheffield United to Brisbane Road on Sunday, Angharad said: “The style of football we are playing here now really suits my game. I like to be on the ball and try to dictate play as much as possible.

“I have moved positions slightly this season, so that has been a new challenge for me, but one I have really enjoyed. If the team needs me to do a job there, then that’s what I will do.

“I think I have given 100 per cent to do the best I can in that role and it has been, overall, a challenge for me but one that I have thrived on. I like a new challenge and like to set myself new goals, and changing position has been all of that together.”
