Team news | Spurs vs Brighton | Ange on Son's availability

Fri 09 February 2024, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Heung-Min Son is back in contention for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, Ange Postecoglou has revealed.

Following South Korea’s Asian Cup semi-final loss to Jordan on Tuesday, our Club captain – who led his nation in every minute of the competition which included two knockouts that went to extra-time – reported back at Hotspur Way on Thursday 8 February.

Speaking in his pre-match chat with SPURSPLAY, Ange revealed the forward, who registered 12 goals and five assists in his 20 Premier League appearances before departing for Qatar in early January, completed a full session with the squad today (9 February) ahead of a much-anticipated return for Brighton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (kick-off 3pm UK).

With midfielders Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal) and Yves Bissouma (Mali) also available after returning from international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, our Head Coach has reported more positive news with Giovani Lo Celso back in full training and could be involved this weekend as selection nears a full complement of players for the first time in months.

"Yeah, they're all good," said Ange. "Biss had a slightly longer trip and then Sonny had a pretty tough tournament in terms of the extra-time matches and late finishes but both trained today and are in good spirits.

"It's good to get the guys back in the building. All three of them were representing their countries, unfortunately their tournaments have ended early but we're the beneficiaries of that. Then Gio's back training with the group which is good and he's had a good week in training.

"It's been good for the lads to see everyone back together as it's been a while since we've had everyone training, today was kind of the first session where everyone was in which was good to see."

The Australian also provided updates on our longer-term absentees, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon, saying: "Manor's had to have a further procedure on his knee and Sess is still completing his recovery."
