Votíková: “The beginnings are always tough, but I feel like I’m at home” | Matchday programme exclusive

Fri 09 February 2024, 16:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Barbora Votíková feels right at home in N17.

Barbora – also known as Bára - made the move to Lilywhite in the summer, joining from Division 1 Féminine side, Paris St Germain, where she spent two years with the French club and made 22 appearances.

With the first half of the campaign done, the 27-year-old has certainly settled into life at Hotspur Way – making four consecutive starts in the Barclays Women’s Super League and four in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup - and feels she has adapted to the style of football in England.

Speaking in an interview in the matchday programme for the visit of Charlton Athletic in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, Bára said: “I have been here for about eight months, and I feel pretty settled with everything,” she added.

“Of course, the beginning is always crazy when it comes to like finding an apartment and getting used to the intensity of the league and meeting new people, so the beginnings of a new club are always tough, but I feel like I’m at home.

I see this league as one of the best leagues in the world, so I feel very grateful for the opportunity to play here.

“It took me a while and I needed time to adapt to feel at my best. Also, I came back from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury and was out for a whole season before I signed for Spurs, so the injury, not playing and all the differences, it was hard to adapt at first.

“The WSL has been a big change; it has been very different from what I was used to. In France, when I played for PSG, we dominated most of the games in possession, so I had a different type of work there.

“The league here in England, the teams are more competitive, and every game is pretty intense and challenging. I see this league as one of the best leagues in the world, so I feel very grateful for the opportunity to play here.”
