Kit Graham: “It was a good feeling to score the winning goal”

Sun 11 February 2024, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Kit Graham was pleased to have her name on the scoresheet as we secured our place in the last eight of the Adode Women’s FA Cup following the victory over Charlton Athletic.

The 28-year-old made an instant impact from the bench, as within five minutes of being on the pitch, she broke the deadlock when her low-driven effort from the edge of the area found the back of the net.

Kit – who just put pen to paper on a new contract at the beginning of this month – unsurprisingly was delighted to have scored the winning goal against her former club and progress into the quarter-final of the competition – for third time in the Club’s history.

“It was a good feeling to score the winning goal,” Kit told SPURSPLAY. “Games like this can be tough and they made it a scrappy game for us, but at the end of the day, the job is to win and that’s what we did. It doesn’t matter how it looks; we are just happy to be into the next round of the competition.

“We were lacking some shots in the final third, we had a couple of chances that hit the woodwork, but I just wanted to come on and try to have a shot from the edge of the box. I know I have goals in me, so it’s just about taking those opportunities when they come. They don’t always go in, but if you don’t shoot then you don’t score, and thankfully this one did.”

We take every game as it comes, we are still learning as a team and building new relationships, so that will take time.

Kit spent 14 years at the Addicks and bolstered an impressive goalscoring record, scoring 221 goals in 229 games, and she was full of praise for the FA Women’s Championship side.

“I thought I wouldn’t celebrate, but you get caught up in the moment, I’m just grateful that I got the opportunity to take that shot and it went in," Kit added.

“They are a great team and they are doing a very good job this season, sitting top of the table, so credit to them.”

The draw for the quarter-final is set to take place on Monday 12 February at around 7:20pm on BBC One’s ‘The One Show’, and Kit is looking to build on the momentum.

“We take every game as it comes, we are still learning as a team and building new relationships, so that will take time. But, games like this you want to win and go as far as you can.”
