Adobe Women’s FA Cup action returns to Brisbane Road on Saturday evening as we face high-flying FA Women’s Championship side, Charlton Athletic, in the fifth round.

Here’s all you need to know about the Addicks…

Form guide

The Addicks have enjoyed an excellent campaign so far, currently sitting top of the FA Women’s Championship and two points ahead of Sunderland. They have only lost on one occasion this season in the league, which came back in September to Watford (3-2), and are currently unbeaten in 12 games (eight wins and four draws), most recently, a 1-0 win over fellow promotion hopefuls, Crystal Palace, last month as Freda Ayisi’s strike secured an important three points. Karen Hills’ side entered this stage of the competition at the third round, overcoming Bournemouth with a 6-0 victory before securing their spot in the fifth round after a 4-1 win over Ipswich Town.

Players to watch

The squad is filled with a number of experienced players, notably, midfielder Kate Longhurst who has been in the Barclays Women’s Super League since its inception in 2011, with spells at Chelsea, Liverpool – where she won back-to-back WSL titles – and, most recently, West Ham United, racking up over 200 appearances in that time. The 34-year-old is also the co-captain for the Addicks, alongside defender Kiera Skeels, who is an England youth international and has started every league this season. At the other end, veteran forward Kayleigh Green is the club’s leading goalscorer with five goals in 14 league games. She brings over a decade of international experience and is Brighton & Hove Albion’s all-time WSL leader in appearances. Angela Addison spent four years in Lilywhite, making 82 appearances in that time, and was part of the squad that secured promotion to the WSL for the first time.

Manager – Karen Hills

Before her coaching career, Hills had spells at Watford, Wembley Mill Hill and Charlton Athletic as a player, spending six years at the Addicks, where she reached the FA Women’s Cup final four times in five years. In August, 2009, she was appointed first team manager at Spurs and spent just over a decade at the helm, overseeing a number of promotions as the club developed from an amateur side to a full-time FA Women’s Super League. In March, 2021, Hills was named manager of Charlton Athletic and has guided them to two top five finishes over the last two seasons.

Last time out

We last faced the Addicks in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup in October, 2021, as we secured a 1-0 victory at The Hive. Jiali Tang scored the only goal of the game – her first for the Club at the time – as she collected Addison’s pass before firing low past Eartha Cumings.
