Hundreds receive positive outcomes from visit to latest Tottenham Hotspur Stadium jobs fair

Thu 29 February 2024, 17:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has once again opened up to local residents looking for employment today, with 1,686 passing through the doors.

The jobs fair, held in partnership between Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), saw 313 attendees receive an immediate positive outcome in the form of a job offer, interview, invite to trial shift or similar.

One of those - who secured a job as a bus driver after speaking to Tottenham-based A Fairer Chance - was Rafique.

He exclaimed: “I’ve been searching for a job for over six months and this was one of the first stands I came to. I’m really so happy!”

The job was offered to him by Roxanne, who added: “This is why we come! We did an interview on the spot and I’m over the moon. The fact Rafique’s got a job after looking for so long, I’m so happy for him.”

Georgia was another in attendance who came away feeling pleased.

She said: “I’ve found so many options at today's jobs fair as well as a lot of advice and support on how to upskill and apply for a wider variety of work.

“All the people involved were very helpful and supportive, and they gave me some great advice.

“The methods I’ve learned on how to help myself regarding job interviews have been particularly useful. I’m very grateful.”

Today’s jobs fair followed three held at the stadium last year, resulting in over 1,500 positive outcomes.

The fairs form part of the club’s ongoing efforts to drive employment opportunities locally, with recent socio-economic analysis undertaken by EY revealing 3,700 full-time jobs are supported by the stadium across Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest, including 2,800 of those in Haringey.

On hand to offer support today was Spurs Ambassador, Ledley King.

He said: “It’s great to be back here at the jobs fair after the success of last year. I’ve had the opportunity to mingle with so many people and I can really tell it’s something that’s going to make a difference for a lot of people moving forward.

“I’m really proud of the club and the Foundation for putting on events that make such a difference in the community.”

Over 50 employers were in attendance, including Mercedes-Benz, Stansted Airport, Tesco and the Home Office. Roles on offer ranged from entry level through to graduate and management positions, as well as traineeships and apprenticeships.

Speaking earlier in the day, David from Non Stop Action said: “We’ve spoken to people who are interested in a career in sport and passionate about working with children, and we’ve had the chance to speak to recruiters looking to help us out, so it’s been good.”

Niamh from Lexington Catering said: “The venue’s beautiful and we really like the layout. There are lots of other suppliers here and that’s nice because it creates a good atmosphere. People are coming in very engaged and asking a lot of questions, so it’s really nice to be able to explain what we provide and jobs we have available.”

Later in the day, Robert from Quint Education said: “This has been great. We’re concentrating on getting along to these kinds of events because a lot of people are interested in coming where there are lots of employers. We’ve made seven job offers so far today.”

The Foundation delivers a range of employment and skills programmes thanks to funding from various supporters, including the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. This includes one to one employment advice, interview skills and CV training for jobseekers at its Percy House headquarters, as well as career mentoring initiatives.

Damian Zabielski, youth, employment and skills manager, said: “We’ve been hearing how people find it important that the stadium on their doorstep opens up to provide opportunities like this. The Foundation and the football club are committed to investing into the local community and helping people find their first step into a new job or career. We’ve been able to do that today in partnership with the DWP, bringing together 50-plus employers.”
