Bergvall impresses in Djurgarden cup win

Mon 26 February 2024, 15:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Lucas Bergvall scored twice and provided an assist as Djurgarden recorded a 5-0 win at Swedish third tier side Nordic United in the Svenska Cup group stage on Sunday.

Remaining at the Swedish Allsvenskan outfit after agreeing a deal earlier this month to join us on 1 July, the 18-year-old placed a tidy right-foot finish to double his side’s lead in the 11th minute after Rasmus Schuller’s opener four minutes in at Sodertalje Football Arena.

He then turned creator for the third on 48 minutes - showing strength and poise to create space in the box and threading a deft pass with the outside of his boot for Deniz Hummet to finish from close range – before doubling his tally with a superb solo effort in the 67th minute.

Picking up the ball in his own half, the midfielder glided past defenders with purpose into the area before wrong-footing both the last defender and goalkeeper and coolly finishing to make it 4-0.

The Sweden international was replaced with just under 20 minutes to play as Djurgarden rounded off the away victory through Jonathan Gursac’s own goal on 82 minutes, despite having goalkeeper Malkolm Nilsson Safqvist sent off for a handball outside the area five minutes prior.

The win sees the five-time Svenska Cup champions go top of Group D on goal difference after two games, level on points with fellow top-flight side Göteborg who they face next in the final group game on Sunday 3 March before their league campaign gets under way at the end of next month.
