Ange Postecoglou admits there is a renewed freshness in the squad after a full-on 10 days in Asia as we prepare to face FC Bayern on Saturday (5.30pm UK).
After being hard at work for past two weeks in the high heats and humidities of both Japan and Korea, while the temperatures are still fairly high in the UK, the reduced humidity has certainly made training sessions far more manageable for the squad back on home soil this week.
From 36 degree heat and upwards of 90 per cent humidity to contend with in intensive sessions to highs of 25 degrees and 50 per cent humidity in London, while the conditions are much more comfortable, the tenacity has, if anything, increased with the re-introduction of Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur and Micky van de Ven, who have all now returned to Hotspur Way after extended breaks following their successes on the international stage this summer with their respective nations.
With the squad bolstered by their return, and the conditions much more favourable, Ange admits there is a much fresher feel about the team heading into our final pre-season friendly - Saturday's clash with the German giants - and it is one that the whole group is looking forward to.
It’s been a good week of training. The cooler conditions have helped obviously, and the boys feel a lot fresher than they were.
“It’s a bit cooler, mate,” He smiled as he remarked on the temperature switch from Seoul to London. “No, it’s been good. It’s been a good week of training. It’s good to get the internationals back as well.
“(They've reintegrated) really well. From our perspective, we had to make sure they had a decent break. They all had pretty big tournaments, especially the South American boys. So good to get them back in the building. They obviously add to the quality of our training, the intensity of our training so it’s been good to have them back.
"It feels like we’ve got everyone back together again. It’s been a good week of training. The cooler conditions have helped obviously, and the boys feel a lot fresher than they were. Now looking forward to a big game tomorrow.
"(This game) is about continuing our preparations. These games are part of pre-season. We had a good, solid 10 days in Asia, games included, where the boys worked really hard. It’s a bit of a different one this week as we won’t have had the physical toll we’ve had (on tour) but it’s still an important 90 minutes for us against quality opposition and we saw that last week. What we want to do is get as many realistic match minutes into the boys as possible.”
