Robert Vilahamn full of praise for goalscorers in historic FA Cup victory

Tue 16 April 2024, 19:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Robert Vilahamn was delighted with our two goalscorers – Jess Naz and Martha Thomas - on Sunday as they inspired us to a 2-1 victory over Leicester City to progress to our first-ever Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

Falling behind in the opening stages through a wonderful strike from the Foxes’ Jutta Rantala, Jess showed composure in front of a large crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to net the equaliser in the 83rd minute, sending the game into extra time.

Martha, who was making her return from a short spell on the sideline, coming on as a second half substitute, wrote her name in the history books once again – previously scoring the goal that secured our first win over Arsenal back in December – to net the winning goal with two minutes left on the clock before penalties, sparking jubilant scenes in N17.

Speaking to The Review Show following the game, Robert was full of praise on the impact from the pair.

“You never know with Jess because she looks tired and then she takes another ball and runs again, so, I thought, I didn’t want to take her off and want to keep her on the pitch but also want to save her. We put her as a number nine and she can take those runs all the time – she was brilliant,” he said.

“Martha also coming back from an injury, I moved her out to the right which she hasn’t done too much but I needed Jess as a nine. Then, she took that aerial duel, Martha loves to play here [Tottenham Hotspur Stadium].”
