Opposition watch | How have Forest fared since we last met in December?

Fri 05 April 2024, 12:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Nottingham Forest are next up in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday evening (6pm UK) - here's a closer look at Nuno Espirito Santo's team...

Form

Forest had won three games in 19 in the Premier League since November - during which time Nuno Espirito Santo replaced Steve Cooper - and were on a run of one win in 10 when they picked up a crucial 3-1 victory against Fulham on Tuesday evening. You can now turn that form around to three unbeaten, with the Fulham win following a draw against Palace and Luton. Deducted four points by the Premier League, they arrive in N17 three points above the relegation zone.

Players to watch

Forest have some eye-catching forwards - the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Anthony Elanga, plus the classic number nine in the shape of Chris Wood - and they all started and played their part in the key win against Fulham - Hudson-Odoi, Wood and Gibbs-White all on target in the first half. Gibbs-White is the talisman, the playmaker with four goals and seven assists in an ever-present 30 matches so far. Danilo and captain Ryan Yates provided the defensive side of a 4-2-3-1 system and look out for Wales international Neco Williams getting forward down the right - he's weighed in with 58 crosses this season. Matz Sels has taken over in goal from Matt Turner.

The manager - Nuno Espirito Santo

A manager who needs no introduction - Nuno was in charge here at Spurs for 17 matches at the start of the 2021/22 season, winning the Premier League's Manager of the Month award in August, 2021. A professional goalkeeper for 18 years for the likes of Porto, Deportivo la Coruna and Dynamo Moscow, Nuno began his coaching career at Rio Ave, where he took the time into Europe for the first time, before taking over at Valencia in 2014, steering them to Champions League football. He returned to Porto and then moved to England and Wolves. He guided the Molineux club into the Premier League and then finished seventh in successive seasons. Wolves also reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2019/20. After his stint in N17, Nuno won the Saudi Pro League and Saudi Super Cup with Al-Ittihad Club before returning to the Premier League and Forest in December, 2023.

Last time we met

Deki Kulusevski put on a show at the City Ground - then announced his girlfriend was pregnant! The Swedish playmaker was at his brilliant best first to set up a classic forward's header for Richarlison at the end of the first half, before capitalising on Matt Turner's mistake to ram home the second goal. Forest came back into it when Yves Bissouma was sent off after 70 minutes, but Guglielmo Vicario kept the hosts at bay and we took the points back to N17.
