Newcastle 4-0 Spurs | Ange’s verdict and update on Pedro Porro

Sat 13 April 2024, 15:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou felt the team ‘didn’t get a grip on the game’ as we suffered a 4-0 loss against Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

After an even start, we were rocked by two goals in as many minutes as Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon netted on 30 and 32 minutes. We struggled to play out from the home side’s press throughout and a turnover of possession led to the third goal five minutes into the second half, Isak again, this time finishing one-on-one from Bruno Guimaraes’ pass over the top.

We’ve always had solutions, but today we didn’t have the belief or bravery to play our football...

Deki Kulusevski came closest to reducing arrears after coming off the bench, but the Toon had the final word when Fabian Schar rose to head home Gordon’s corner three minutes from time.

Speaking to our Review Show from St. James’ Park, Ange said: “It wasn’t a great day for us. We didn’t get a grip on the game. Credit to Newcastle, I thought they were good today, and they dictated the way the game was played. We didn’t do enough to change that course of events. They pressed us, but no more than other teams have. We’ve always had solutions to that, but today we didn’t have the belief or bravery to play our football.”

Meanwhile, Ange brought us up to date after Pedro Porro was forced off in the second half. “Pedro felt something in the first half, tried to continue in the second, we’ll see what the medical team have to say.”
