Rob's analysis
First of all, what a game this is! Two of the most attacking teams in the Premier League, and Spurs vs Liverpool rarely disappoints as a spectacle. Once again, it's the stand-out fixture of the weekend, just like the north London derby last weekend. I'll start my analysis with Liverpool this time around. It will be interesting to see who starts in attack, because all of Darwin Nunez, Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo are scoring goals at the moment. I suspect it will be Diaz on the left, Salah right and Nunez through the middle. Nunez has four goals and two assists in eight games this season. You may remember he played wide left last season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and caused problems getting in behind but now I think he'll play through the middle. Whoever does play out of those five attackers, it's quite a prospect for any defence!
Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about this as 'Liverpool rebooted', this new four-man midfield they've signed in the summer - Dominik Szoboszlai (signed from RB Leipzig) has certainly caught the eye of that group, he's played every minute of the Premier League season so far and only two players have run further - one is Dejan Kulusevski. He has amazing technique, a brilliant right foot, a rocket shot, as we've seen with his two goals this season, the latest a piledriver against Leicester in the Carabao Cup in midweek. However, I still feel they need a top-quality defensive midfielder, and whoever plays in that position on Saturday will have the task of trying to deal with in-form James Maddison, if he's fit. He was unreal against Arsenal, created both goals for Heung-Min Son and that's a crucial area. I feel that's where Spurs can hurt Liverpool, by finding Maddison in that space to create chances or even score himself.
From a Spurs point of view, I think it's going to be key to start well. Liverpool have conceded first in five of their eight games this season, although they have gone on to win all of them. It has been a bit of a hangover trait for Liverpool from last season. In terms of Spurs, I can't see any change in the back line, maybe a tweak in midfield, you never know - I guess it depends on Maddison's fitness. In attack, again, it depends on the fitness of Brennan Johnson. Manor Solomon could come in, Richarlison could come in. I've really liked Son as a centre forward - five goals in three starts in that position this season, including two brilliantly-taken goals at the Emirates. He's also scored in four of the last five games he's played against Liverpool, and you wouldn't bet against him doing that again on Saturday evening.
Ben's one to watch
I very much echo what Rob said in terms of the performance against Arsenal. The biggest thing for me against Arsenal was how defensively stable we were. There were periods in the game where we were under pressure but you felt it was very much under control. A lot of players picked up yellow cards, but the discipline they showed was phenomenal. Destiny Udogie was superb, to play 70 minutes against one of the best wingers in the league and stay so calm, so disciplined, credit to him. Having said all that, this week I'm picking out Micky van de Ven - of course I am, after our video this week - but his recovery pace is so crucial and that was a big test on the road against a team that will likely challenge for the title. To come through in the way he did, to look so calm on the ball, so good in possession, always looking for a pass and to progress the team up the pitch, rather than play safe. Liverpool's front line, bags of pace, they harrass you, make you work incredible hard, constantly looking to play off the shoulder, constantly looking to turn people. I imagine there will be some interesting foot races between Micky and that Liverpool front line!
Liverpool... I'll go with Darwin Nunez. He's one of those forwards I was talking about, an absolute pain for defenders, constantly working off the shoulder, doesn't allow you a second to breathe. The game that jumps out to me is Newcastle away (Nunez scored two late goals as 10-man Liverpool won 2-1) when he gets it right, when he's instinctive, he's at his best. This time last year it was 2-1 to Liverpool, Salah scored early... we have to be on it from the start. Liverpool will pounce on anything and Nunez will be key to what they want to do. That's why I picked Micky as well, I just think that's going to be a great battle, Micky's pace against Nunez's constant running off the shoulder, that should be fascinating.
