"I could just see myself playing for Tottenham" - Maddison on his move to N17

Fri 08 September 2023, 18:00|Tottenham Hotspur

James Maddison believes that our Club is the perfect place for him.

Signed from Leicester City in the summer, James has been reflecting on his move to the Club with the national media while on international duty with England - and he has outlined some of the reasons why a move to N17 was the best option for him.

A Premier League player since 2018 when he moved to Leicester from Norwich City, in that time, 'Madders' has developed into one of the top flight's most creative players, producing an incredible 43 goal involvements since the start of the 2021/22 campaign (24 goals and 19 assists).

And that creative type of player he feels is something that has been an intrinsic aspect in our teams over the years through the likes of Glenn Hoddle, Ossie Ardiles, Paul Gascoigne, Rafael van der Vaart and Christian Eriksen - and he felt it was a role he could well fit if he donned our famous Lilywhite shirt.

Spurs have always had that type of player and that sort of midfielder who wants to be creative and entertain the fans

“(It) was one of the reasons I wanted to go to Tottenham, purely because I could just see myself playing for Tottenham," Our number 23 said, speaking to the Independent. "I’m not even 100 percent sure what I mean by that, so don’t ask me. But I could just see myself in that team, in that kit, in that stadium. It just fitted well for me.

“And they’ve always had that type of player; that sort of midfielder who wants to be creative and entertain the fans and be a personality. Christian Eriksen in more recent years but since him they probably haven’t had that type of player. I’d put myself in that category, I’m not putting myself on the same level. But I’m that type of player.”
