Burnley 2-5 Spurs | Sonny: “I’m happy with three goals, but happier with three points”

Heung-Min Son might have scored a hat-trick in our 5-2 win at Burnley, but he was more interested in the collective than any individual accolades.

The skipper led by example to take home his fifth Spurs match ball after we recovered from a storming start from the home side to dominate the Premier League encounter.

Sonny’s lovely finish for 1-1 put us back on track with Cuti Romero’s cracker from 20 yards putting us 2-1 up just before half-time. Three goals in 20 minutes at the start of the second half put us in control with a trademark curler from James Maddison before Sonny completed his hat-trick with two clinical finishes in the space of three minutes.

“I’m very happy, obviously, but not as happy with the three goals as I am with the three points,” Sonny told the Review Show on SPURSPLAY from Turf Moor. “It doesn’t matter who scores. It is a hat-trick from me, but the passes from Manor, the pass from Pedro, fantastic, I just had to hit the target.

“The way we created the chances, everyone was involved, so I’m very happy, credit to every player - they are team goals. At the end, okay, you say, ‘Sonny scored a hat-trick’, but that’s not important, most important is that we get the three points.

“It was a fantastic performance from the players - the group of players - because this is a difficult place, especially when you go down after five minutes. I think we showed we have great character and great players who can turn that around. It’s a lesson that we should start stronger in the first 10 minutes, but we’re very happy to score five goals here and win the three points.”
