Dorrington shortlisted for Premier League 2 award

Thu 05 October 2023, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Alfie Dorrington’s impressive performances for our Under-21s have been recognised with the defender nominated for September’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

The centre-back, 18, has been a constant, reliable presence in the back four during our 100 per cent start to the season at Development Squad level, with Wayne Burnett’s side winning eight games out of eight in all competitions.

Alfie’s fine form continued throughout September with three clean sheets out of three in all competitions, as a 4-0 home win over Blackburn Rovers and 2-0 triumph at Stoke City in the league sandwiched a 5-0 victory against Colchester United’s senior team in the EFL Trophy.

The England Under-19 international also provided an assist for Jamie Donley to score our second goal against Blackburn back on 2 September.

The defender’s displays have helped us remain top of the Premier League 2 standings going into the October international break.

Alfie is joined on the shortlist by Luca Barrington and Mark O'Mahony of Brighton & Hove Albion, Omari Forson of Manchester United, Sunderland’s Harry Gardiner, Middlesbrough’s Callum Kavanagh, Callum Marshall of West Ham United and Tommi O'Reilly of Aston Villa.

The nominees were selected by the Premier League Football Development Panel after club coaches proposed the best performances by opposing players throughout last month. The panel will also decide the winner, which will be announced next week.
