Ashley Phillips and Luca Gunter helped England's Under-19s to a clean sheet on Wednesday in Podgorica as they were held to a goalless draw by Montenegro.
Taking on the eastern European nation at the DG Arena Lješkopolje in the Montenegrin capital, Ashley led the team out while Luca started in goal for his nation as they kick started their qualification campaign for the UEFA Under-19 European Championships.
Competing in Group L alongside Wales, Austria and Montenegro, England will be frustrated to have been forced to settle for a point in their opener having dominated proceedings in the Balkan nation. yet it was a positive night defensively as Luca secured his first clean sheet for the Under-19s while it was Ashley's fifth in nine outings at that level.
Both played the full 90 minutes of the opening qualifier while Alfie Dorrington was an unused substitute.
The Young Lions will now take on Wales on Saturday before facing off against Austria on Tuesday.
