A Premier League first, our unbeaten streak and Son's goalscoring record | Luton vs Spurs

Fri 06 October 2023, 18:15|Tottenham Hotspur

This weekend we make the trip to face newcomers Luton Town for the first time in the Premier League.

Saturday's early kick-off (12.30pm UK) will be the first competitive meeting between us and the Hatters in 31 years, when it ended scoreless at Kenilworth Road in the old First Division.

That away draw back in March, 1992 extended our unbeaten run in this fixture to nine games in all competitions (five wins, four draws) with each of our last three league visits to Luton's historic ground ending goalless.

This season, we remain undefeated in the league under Ange Postecoglou after seven matches meaning we are currently on the longest streak of any side in the division, having ended Liverpool's 17-game run without loss in our 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last time out. That result also meant we have scored two or more goals in all seven league games so far as Ange looks to achieve what no manager in the division has done before and score more than once in their first eight matches in charge.

Up against a Rob Edwards side who are in England's top flight for the first time since it was rebranded to its current format, we have a strong record against newly-promoted sides with 12 wins in our last 14 league games against such opposition having already beaten Burnley and Sheffield United this term.

In fact, we are unbeaten in our previous seven on the road against promoted sides (six wins, one draw) and haven't lost in our last five away games (won three, drawn two) in the competition, avoiding defeat in all four so far this campaign - Brentford (2-2), Bournemouth (2-0), Burnley (5-2), Arsenal (2-2).

Leading the way in our goalscoring department with six goals in seven league games is Heung-Min Son, netting all in his last four appearances, as many as in his previous 23. Our Club captain has led by example this season and will be confident of extending his prolific form against Luton, having registered 31 goal contributions in his previous 32 league outings against promoted teams (21 goals, 10 assists) - netting a hat-trick at Turf Moor. The South Korea international has also scored five times in his last two top-flight away games, following up his three goals at Burnley with a brace against Arsenal.
