Ben & Rob talk Spurs | 2022/23 awards

Wed 31 May 2023, 17:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Ben Haines and Rob Daly’s voices have again been omnipresent through another season at Spurs - Ben as the host of our matchday show N17 Live from every home game, Rob as our official commentator. Here are their awards for 2022/23...

Player of the Season

Ben: “For me, obviously, it’s Harry Kane. For him to get a 30-goal season... and what people aren’t really talking about is the longevity of his season, how many minutes he’s played and what he contributes overall in terms of his ability on the ball, dropping into pockets, finishing, taking pressure penalties after what happened in the World Cup, the range of finishes, and he’s an unbelievable leader. Shout out to Emerson Royal as well, and Rodrigo Bentancur was having a phenomenal season before he was injured.”

Rob: “It has to be Harry. His consistency has been staggering, 30 Premier League goals and he’s scored in 26 different matches, a record in a Premier League campaign. He bounced back from a heart-breaking World Cup to break the Spurs and England goalscoring records, the link-up play, the assists, the minutes he played…one of the best players in the world.”

Young Player of the Season

Rob: “I’ll give this to Oliver Skipp. He had the disappointment of his injury in Antonio Conte’s first season and had to wait patiently for his opportunity because the Club signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma in the meantime. But when both of those players were injured, I thought he really stepped up in their absence, played a lot of minutes and his screamer against Chelsea was one of the moments of the season.”

Ben: “I’ve loved watching Skippy push on, he’s shown again he can do it and Pape Sarr, he could be one to look out for next season, such an exciting young player, Pedro Porro, as well.”

Moment of the Season

Ben: “For me, it’s a shoot-out between Harry’s record-breaking goal and the win against City, Skippy’s absolute rocket against Chelsea and the last-minute winners, Marseille in the Champions League as well.”

Rob: “Admittedly, it’s been a tough season, but there have been some stand-out days such as the win away at Marseille, Richarlison’s two headers in the home game against Marseille, his Champions League debut, Lucas Moura’s goal on the final day at Leeds was special, but it has to be Harry breaking the Club’s goalscoring record, the moment the ball hit the net for his 267th goal was special as he passed Jimmy Greaves’ total, and it was the winner against Manchester City so, overall, a brilliant day."

Goal of the Season

Ben: “Technically, it’s probably Harry’s goal against Brentford, but I’m going to go for Heung-Min Son’s goal against Brighton, his 100th in the Premier League, I was sat right behind that, and it was an absolute screamer.”

Rob: “I know a lot of people like Sonny’s goal to reach 100 goals in the Premier League, the first Asian player to do so, but I think his opening goal in the 6-2 win against Leicester was better. He went on to score a hat-trick off the bench and the emotional celebration when he just stood still as he ended his goal drought was pretty special.”
