On Thursday afternoon, Ledley King visited the picturesque Rottnest Island – and got to meet the island's most famous residents, the quokkas.
An island just off the west coast of Australia, 11 miles from Perth on the mainland, Rottnest is an A-class reserve – the highest level of protection afforded to public land in the Oceanic nation.
Arriving at Rottnest in the early morning, Ledley was given a guided tour of the island, beginning with a talk on ‘Rotto’s’ history, including its importance for the Noongar people.
Our legendary former captain and now Club Ambassador then jumped on an electric bike to explore the island, riding through its stunning scenery to visit its acclaimed sites of natural beauty.
That included going to visit the island’s iconic inhabitants – the quokkas. Earning a reputation over the years as the ‘happiest animal in the world’ as their facial structure makes it appear they are smiling, the marsupial, which comes from the same family as Australia’s other famous residents, the Kangaroo and the wallaby, has also become renowned for their seeming willingness to pose for selfies with visitors.
So of course, the King had to take the opportunity to grab a photo with the very friendly quokkas.

Later on, Ledley also tried a ‘Craydog’ – a grilled crayfish sandwich that has become a popular local delicacy on Rottnest.
