Asia-Pacific Tour | Ange previews Leicester: “We’re looking for progression in all areas”

Sun 23 July 2023, 06:40|Tottenham Hotspur

Progression is key for Ange Postecoglou as we take on Leicester City in the second pre-season match of our Asia-Pacific Tour on Sunday (11am UK, 5pm local).

There were plenty of positives despite defeat at the hands of West Ham in our Tour opener in Perth - not least, 30 efforts at goal - and now the Head Coach is looking to build on that performance and hard work in training over the last few days in Perth and Bangkok when we face the Foxes at the Rajamangala National Stadium.

The players have been really receptive to this so hopefully we’ll see improvement and progress from the first game

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Saturday, Ange said: “The other night (against West Ham) was for us a good start in terms of at least the players know in terms what it feels like and some of the things we’ve been working on, they really tried hard to implement.

“It’s still very early stages. Tomorrow with the weather here it’ll be a challenge for us to play at high intensity. I’ve been here with Australian teams, and we found it very difficult and I’m sure it will be tomorrow. At the same time, that’s how we want to play. The players have been really receptive to this so hopefully from tomorrow we’ll see improvement and progress from the first game.”

Speaking about the change in the weather from Perth to Bangkok - and we’re talking from 60 degrees in the morning in Perth to 85 in Bangkok - Ange told SPURSPLAY: “It’s fairly extreme, and anyone here realises that.

“Obviously, I’ve played here a few times so I know what we’re getting into, but it takes a little adjusting to. We had a session this morning, the lads did well, considering we only travelled yesterday. It will be humid for the game so it’s good we’re prepared for it. It’s tougher but we’re not here to adjust to conditions, we’re looking for progression in all areas.

“We gave them some feedback after the game, some analysis, had some good sessions and progression is what it’s all about now, to improve elements of our game and match conditioning.”
