We ask the players... talk to us about Harry Kane...

Mon 06 February 2023, 18:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane hit the magical 267 mark to become our all-time record goalscorer with his winner against Manchester City on Sunday.

What a day at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the Academy graduate, one of our own, passed Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 that had stood since 1970. On top of that, he became only the third player to score 200 goals in the Premier League, joining Wayne Rooney (208) and Alan Shearer (260).

What more is there to say about Harry?

For an insight, we turned to the players who know him best, his team-mates.

Here’s what they had to say when we said to them, ‘talk to us about Harry Kane’.

Hugo Lloris

Team-mate since 2012

“I don’t know where to start! First of all, the player is an example, dedicated to his passion, and his main passion is to score goals! I’m not surprised he’s breaking all the records. He’s also dedicated to this team. The man is the same as the player. He has a warm heart, and he deserves the best.”

Eric Dier

Team-mate since 2014

“Harry has been a great team-mate and become a great friend. We’ve known each other for a long time. I’ve been there for 262 of the goals. It’s been incredible to watch his rise and development. The nice story is that we went to the Under-20 World Cup together. I remember him having a tough tournament and, from there, to see his development, how hard he’s worked to get to where he is… the consistency in his performances... consistency is the hardest thing to achieve, and his consistency in everything he does, in his behaviour, the way he’s been since I’ve known him, he’s been so consistent in who he is as a person, as a footballer, and that’s the biggest compliment I can pay him. He’s so humble, so hard working, and has consistently performed at the highest level. He does that every day. He’s boringly consistent in how he acts every day! That’s what makes him great. It’s been a real pleasure to play with him, and to become good friends. We’ve spent many amazing years together and I’m sure we’ll have a lot more special moments in the future. He’s a fantastic role model and I’m sure he’s got plenty more goals in him. I’m certain he’ll break the Premier League record, and the England record. I’m sure he’ll have that in his sights. He’s one of the best strikers in the world, has been for a very long time, and he’s got so much more left in the tank.”

Ben Davies

Team-mate since 2014

“He’s world-class and deserves to be at the top. There’s only so much more you can say about him! He’s a special player to play with and it’s been an honour to spend a lot of years with him. I’ve seen pretty much all of his career, and it’s the sheer consistency of it that’s been amazing. The goals keep coming - and I don’t think he’ll ever stop!”

Heung-Min Son

Team-mate since 2015

“He’s a legend. Why is he so good? Because he works so hard at his game. What can I say? I’m so proud to play with him and share so many amazing moments with him – one of the greatest legends in football. He’s done such an amazing job for the team, and for the country. I’m so happy to play alongside him, to be his partner, and hopefully I’ll help him break every record. What more can I say. He’s a superstar.”

Lucas Moura

Team-mate since 2018

“He’s incredible, amazing. As a player and as a person, as well. For me, it’s been a pleasure to be a part of this history and to have shared some great moments with him, sharing that time in the changing room. I’m a big fan of Harry and a big part of my career has been playing alongside him, so I’m so happy for him, he deserves everything.”

Oliver Skipp

Academy graduate, team-mate since 2018

“He’s just an amazing finisher, loves scoring goals, but, at the same time, an incredible player to help the team in build-up. As a person, so motivated, driven to help the team and continue scoring goals. He always trains at 100 per cent and he’s just the best finisher I’ve ever seen.”

Brandon Austin

Academy graduate, team-mate since 2019

“Legend. What an unbelievable player. The goals he’s scored… one of, if not the best finisher I’ve faced. I’ve trained with him for six, seven years now, and it’s been a real challenge – a good challenge – for me to face someone of that level every day. And even now, he’s out there practising every day, honing his skills and habits that translating those to the pitch.”

Ryan Sessegnon

Team-mate since 2019

“An incredible player, incredible person, leader, goalscorer and his all-round game is just top, one of the best in the world, one of the best strikers ever, and he has to be one of the best players to ever play for Spurs.”

Harvey White

Academy graduate, team-mate since 2019

“I remember my first-ever training session with the first team. I was a first-year scholar at the time, 16 or 17. We did a session of two-v-twos, and I’d never seen a player strike a ball like he did. So, it’s two against two in the middle and a few players on the outside. I was on the outside. I remember the goalkeeper threw it over his left shoulder and he hit it full on the volley, bang! It went in off the post, and I was standing next to that post. I just thought, ‘wow’.”

Emerson Royal

Team-mate since 2021

“For me, he’s the best in his position. Congratulations to him for the record. I’m so happy for him.”

Dejan Kulusevski

Team-mate since 2022

“Harry’s a fantastic player, as we all know. But he’s also such a good person, outside of the pitch. He helps everyone, and he’ll always help you. He’s a fantastic guy, a fantastic leader, everyone in this team looks up to him and we can all learn from him. He’s a true champion.”
