Record breaker Harry helping students reach their goals

Tue 07 February 2023, 15:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Fresh from becoming the Club’s all-time record goalscorer, Harry Kane joined Year 6 students from Eldon Primary School in Enfield today (Tuesday 7 February) for a classroom workshop on the topics of resilience, goal-setting and the power of positive thinking.

The surprise visit was organised by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Harry Kane Foundation and Premier League Primary Stars to highlight the importance of helping young people explore their mental and emotional wellbeing during Children’s Mental Health Week.

Launched in 2017, Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to support pupils in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field.

In October 2022, Harry created and launched a series of free resources for Premier League Primary Stars in over 18,500 schools across England and Wales. The new resilience resources, which feature a motivational interview with Harry and footage from throughout his career, have been designed to encourage children to recognise the power of positive thinking.

Ahead of the workshop, which was delivered by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, the children were tasked with writing letters to Harry on the theme of how they have applied resilience and positive thinking in their lives.

Harry then surprised the students, thanking them for their letters and shared some personal stories around how he has overcome challenges in his career, what goals he has set for himself during his career and how he has worked to achieve them.

Harry said: “It was great to hear first-hand about how my Premier League Primary Stars resources are helping to provide key life lessons to school students across the country. It is important to me that teachers and young people know these resources are available and I hope this work will help to inspire young people to understand just how far you can go with hard work, dedication, and self-belief.”

Myri Demetriou, Senior Education Lead at Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “It was brilliant to have Harry surprise the students today and offer his support and guidance. As the Club’s all-time record goal scorer, Harry has shown first-hand how through hard work and resilience, you can achieve remarkable things. Through the Premier League Primary Stars resources available, many more students will benefit and change their way of thinking from 'I can’t' to 'I can'.

One student commented: “Meeting Harry Kane today was a dream come true. I’m the biggest Spurs fan so seeing him walk in was the best surprise. We learnt a lot today about resilience and positive thinking and I can’t wait to do more of the activities at home.”
