Cristian previews Leicester: “We need to approach this game in the right way, with humility”

Cristian Stellini spoke about the importance of ‘humility’ as we look to build on three successive wins and clean sheets at Leicester City on Saturday (3pm).

It’s no secret that the playing staff got together after the 4-2 loss at City on 19 January. Hugo Lloris said that night at the Etihad, where we led 2-0 but conceded four goals in the second half, was a ‘wake-up call’, while Ben Davies described it as a ‘kick up the backside’.

Since then, we’ve kept clean sheets to land tricky away wins at Fulham and Preston, followed by Sunday’s fine display and 1-0 victory against Manchester City.

Now it’s Leicester, a team that started the season with six defeats on the trot, recovered with five wins in the next eight, then lost four on the trot, and recovered again with a draw against high-flying Brighton and 4-2 win at Villa.

We need humility. I repeat this word because it will be very important in the next period we have with a tough schedule

In a pre-match interview with SPURSPLAY on Thursday, it was put to Cristian, Antonio Conte’s assistant, how important it would be to continue this momentum at the KP.

“We are looking forward to this game, to create that momentum,” he said. “We played a great game in our stadium against Manchester City and now we think about playing away, it’s important to remember our performance against Fulham.

“That was not an easy game. Fulham are an important team, like Leicester. They start with important targets every season. We have to respect this team, their squad is big, they have good players and they’ve signed new players as well.

“We have to be careful. We have to create the momentum, use the same energy and also play with great humility. To create momentum means we continue to play our best, create a lot of chances, but we don’t need to concede a goal.

“We also need to approach the game well. This is a great change we have in the last period, we’ve approached the games well and scored before we concede, if you do that, it’s a boost, extra energy to use in the game.

“We expect our team to approach the game well and to continue playing for 90 minutes in the same way. To do this, we work hard, and we need humility. I repeat this word because it will be very important in the next period we have with a tough schedule, many important games and Leicester is the first of those important games, a tough team to approach and we have to be ready.”
