Team news | Midfield duo primed for WSL return in January

The historic win against Arsenal has been followed by good news off the pitch for Robert Vilahamn and our women’s squad.

Key midfielders Olga Ahtinen and Eveliina Summanen are targeting a return to action in time for the return of the Women’s Super League in January.

So influential in the early part of the WSL season – when they started our first six matches together - Olga, named vice-captain by Robert for 2023/24, picked up a knee injury against Liverpool on 12 November while Eveliina has also been out since November with a hamstring issue.

Now, the Finland internationals could be ready to face West Ham at Dagenham & Redbridge FC on Sunday 21 January (6.45pm).

Robert gave us this positive update earlier this week. “It was tough to lose them at the same time, but the good news is that they will be back on the pitch in the first or second week of January and should be ready to play against West Ham in the league. Maybe they could be back for the FA Cup game, but they will all be back very soon.”

Before facing West Ham in the WSL, we return to action in the New Year with a Women’s FA Cup third round tie at home against Sheffield United, currently scheduled for the weekend of 13/14 January with an exact date, time and ticket information to be confirmed in due course.
