Rosella surprises next generation of female footballers

Rosella Ayane visited students at Mulberry Academy Woodside in Haringey on Friday, surprising them at an after school football session hosted by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

Girls aged 11-13 have been enjoying weekly sessions since October, with Foundation coaches offering support and identifying pathways to grassroots clubs.

Rosella enjoyed watching a game between the girls before taking part in a Q&A session, touching on various topics including her route into football.

The 27-year-old Moroccan international forward said: “It was great to see the girls so intrigued because when I was their age I didn’t have access to female footballers.

“I think the Foundation’s work opening up pathways for girls in the community is massive and it’s really important to come down, meet the girls and listen to things they have to say.”

There was an exciting close to the session as Rosella handed out tickets to watch her and team-mates taking on Arsenal in the Women’s Super League this weekend.

The game is being played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, 16 December (12 noon).

Rosella said: “I’ve played in a fair whack of North London derbies now. The occasions only get bigger and to play at what I think is one of the best stadiums in the world is always incredible.

“It’s going to be a really exciting game and it’ll be really special for the girls here today to come and witness that live.”

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is supported by the Premier League and Professional Footballer’s Association. Administered through the Premier League Charitable Fund, the funding helps football clubs to tackle inequality and respond to local challenges, supporting people and their communities to be more inclusive.
