Robert Vilahamn is targeting a strong performance against another of the Women’s Super League’s top sides when Manchester United come to visit on Sunday (6.45pm UK, live on Sky Sports).
Robert and the players have been working hard since the heavy defeat at Manchester City in our last game before the international break, with United up next as a challenging spell of matches continues.
“These big games we’re getting now… for me as a coach, to play these games is amazing and for the players as well. We want to compete against the top teams in this league so now we have a chance to compete for a few weeks in a row,” he said as United prepare to come to the Gaughan Group Stadium (Brisbane Road) on Sunday before Arsenal visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 16 December – tickets for both games are available online here.
“We’re playing at home as well, plus we played Manchester United in pre-season (1-0 defeat at St George’s Park) so we know quite a lot about them, but it’s going to be nice to see where we are and if we can beat them.”
Striker Martha Thomas will find herself up against her former club on Sunday and Robert believes she’ll relish the challenge.
“She just came back from her national team so we haven’t worked too much but of course we’ll use her information about the players, about possibilities, how they play and so on,” he said.
“But then of course Martha is our player now and she wants to show them that she’s a good player, but mainly she wants to show our fans that she’s a good player. I think we’re going to see a player that really wants to score goals on Sunday so it’s going to be fun.”
