Spurs 3-1 Bournemouth | Ange’s verdict: “The players are giving the maximum in every game”

Ange Postecoglou described the performance as ‘a little bit of everything’ as the players gave everything to topple in-form AFC Bournemouth 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Rodrigo Bentancur’s early return from injury gave everyone a lift before kick-off and we were fast out of the traps with Pape Matar Sarr opening the scoring on nine minutes.

However, the ups and downs in terms of injuries soon continued as Pape was forced out of the action on the half-hour with a hamstring issue. Alejo Veliz would later limp off, as well.

To come away with a win and strong performance on the back of a quick turn around and with limited squad numbers was very pleasing

Despite that, and an impressive Bournemouth side with six wins in seven coming into this fixture, we forged into a 3-0 lead thanks to brilliant finishes from Heung-Min Son and Richarlison. Alex Scott pulled a late goal back for the visitors, but we kept them at bay after that, despite going down to 10 men following Veliz’s departure, to secure what felt like a big win on New Year’s Eve.

Speaking on our Review Show, Ange reflected: “We’re trying to build something here and every game gives you an opportunity to grow in different ways. We were disappointed with the Brighton game (4-2 loss on Thursday), not with the performance, just elements of the way we went about things.

“Now, we’re playing a Bournemouth side, probably the most in-form team in the competition and, again, the effort the players are putting in, they’re giving the maximum in every game and that’s all we can ask.

“Again, they showed real resilience and that will help us moving forward. They’ve been doing that the whole time. Whatever bumps in the road we’ve had haven’t been through lack of effort, that helps us build what we want to build, because it’s not just about the football.

“Even today, there were times our football as good, we scored three goals, had more opportunities, but to come away with a win and strong performance on the back of a quick turn around and with limited squad numbers was very pleasing.”
