Club makes annual donation to local foodbanks

Tue 19 December 2023, 17:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Eric Dier and Brennan Johnson today visited two of our local foodbanks - North Enfield and Tottenham - to make a delivery of essential items donated by the Club and its players ahead of Christmas.

Foodbanks provide emergency food parcels containing at least three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced meals to individuals and families within the community.

Between April and September this year, foodbanks in the UK distributed 1.5 million food parcels to people facing hardship - an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2022.

More than half a million emergency parcels were distributed for children - an 11% increase compared to last year.

Over the last six months, 320,000 people have had to turn to food banks in the Trussell Trust network for the first time.

The Club is a long-term supporter of its local foodbanks, with an ongoing fundraising campaign enabling fans to make a donation by texting COYSFOODBANK plus an amount to 70085 (for example, text COYSFOODBANK 10 to donate £10).

Eric said: “The Club has such a huge role in this community, something we take extremely seriously, and it’s important we give something back. One of the volunteers told us this is one of the busiest years the foodbank has had, so it goes to show how important this donation from the Club could be to people.”

Brennan added: “It’s no secret that Christmas can be an especially tough time of the year for many people who are struggling. If we’re able to make any kind of positive difference in people’s lives through initiatives like this, then it’s something we’ll continue to do as a Club."
