Students receive A-Level results at LAE Tottenham

Thu 17 August 2023, 15:45|Tottenham Hotspur

We are delighted to announce another set of outstanding A-Level results for students at the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham (LAET) - the Club-sponsored Sixth Form college based on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium campus.

An incredible 37% of grades were either A* or A with 72% A*-B - both significantly above national averages - with the majority of students once again winning places at Russell Group universities or going on to competitive apprenticeships.

Examples include Tottenham resident Leyla Marquez, who won a place to study medicine at the University of Nottingham. Leyla was among a record 17 students embarking on medicine or dentistry degrees.

This year also saw the 45th LAET alumnus winning a place at Oxford or Cambridge university, with local student Ardil Dogan winning a place at Cambridge to study engineering, having achieved 2 A*s and 2 As.

Again, a number of students secured competitive degree apprenticeships, with examples including Zaid Moustapha and Ibrahim Dahir, who will both be embarking on a degree apprenticeship with Rokos Capital Management and Baaba Nkansah-Asamoah who will begin at Goldman Sachs in January.

Jan Balon, Headteacher, said: “This cohort really has fought through adversity and continued to prove that outstanding academic success can be achieved in Tottenham, given the appropriate support and resource.”

Donna-Maria Cullen, Executive Director of Tottenham Hotspur, LAET’s business sponsor, said: “A huge congratulations to all students and staff at LAE Tottenham on yet another year of outstanding A-Level results. The school continues to provide a shining example of the talent that exists in Tottenham and the educational opportunities being delivered for young people. We are extremely proud to see students progress to their chosen Universities – including an incredible 45th alumnus winning a place at Oxbridge – and access prestigious degree apprenticeships with major firms. We wish all graduates the very best for their exciting careers ahead.”

Adam Pettitt, Head of Highgate School, LAET’s principal education sponsor, said: “These are brilliant results by any measure and show how much talent the young people of LAE Tottenham have. A massive well done to them for working so hard to realise that talent and to the staff who have helped ensure that they will now not go unnoticed and untapped: as the leavers embark on ambitious courses and training, we can see social mobility in action, all thanks to commitment from the academy and its partners to create opportunity that these young people deserve, and the human and financial resourcing to give that crucial opportunity a fighting chance to endure.”

The London Academy of Excellence Tottenham is a state-funded Sixth Form, sponsored by the Club and Highgate School - the principal academic sponsors who, together with support from other leading independent schools, deliver expert teaching.

It prioritises local students most likely to benefit from an academically-rigorous curriculum and those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, giving Tottenham’s brightest students the best possible chance of accessing top universities.
