Lankshear “delighted” with Rams brace

Sun 27 August 2023, 15:08|Tottenham Hotspur

Will Lankshear hopes his match-winning brace against Derby County was “the first two of many”.

The young striker stepped off the bench to score with his first touch at Pride Park, opening his account at Under-21 level for us, before adding a second in stoppage time to secure a hard-fought 2-0 win for Wayne Burnett’s side on Friday night, continuing our 100 per cent start to the season in the Premier League 2.

Out injured for much of the first part of this year, the ex-Sheffield United forward was over the moon to continue his comeback by getting on the scoresheet.

“I’m absolutely delighted, first of all to get the three points and then to come off the bench and score two goals after the months that I’ve had injured,” he told SPURSPLAY.

I hope to keep it going, keep working hard in training and just try to please Wayne and the staff.

“I’m disappointed not to get the hat-trick (after a couple of other chances slipped away) but I thought the team was outstanding, especially in the second half. It took a while for us to get into the game but towards the end, we stuck to what Wayne said… we’ve been working hard during the week and I think that showed towards the end.

“Like I said, I’m absolutely delighted and hopefully it was the first two of many goals at this level. I hope to keep it going, keep working hard in training and just try to please Wayne and the staff.”

Both of Will’s goals on Friday were converted at the back-post after near-identical crosses from the superb Jamie Donley.

“I’ve developed a good partnership with Jamie,” added Will. “I realise his quality and when I saw him shape up, I knew to come around to the back post because I knew what he was going to do. When you’ve got good quality players in the team, it makes your life as a striker a bit easier.”

Our Under-21s return to action at home to Sunderland in the Premier League Cup on Tuesday night, live on SPURSPLAY (kick-off 7pm UK).
