Brentford vs Spurs – how to watch, team news, kit colours, key information

Sat 12 August 2023, 22:06|Tottenham Hotspur

It’s a new dawn for us as our first game of the 2023/24 season takes us to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford on Sunday (kick-off 2pm UK).

In Ange Postecoglou’s first match in the Premier League, we could see a number of competitive debuts for our new arrivals as we look to secure our first win at the Bees’ new home, having drawn there on our last two visits.

With anticipation and intrigue abound, here’s all you need to know as we prepare to get behind the team and usher in a new campaign...

How can I watch the game?

Sunday’s trip to Brentford will be televised live in the UK on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event, kick-off 2pm.

Be sure to check your local listings for overseas broadcast information.

Once again this weekend and for every game throughout the season, you can also follow all the action via our Match Centre here on tottenhamhotspur.com and the Spurs Official app, where you’ll find live text updates, images, stats and so much more.

Video highlights will be available on SPURSPLAY from two hours after the game.

What is the team news?

New arrival Micky van de Ven is available for selection while some of our other summer signings could make their competitive debuts for us after featuring in pre-season.

Rodrigo Bentancur, Fraser Forster, Bryan Gil, Ryan Sessegnon and Alfie Whiteman all miss out through injury, while Ange – who named Heung-Min Son as our new captain on Saturday – must decide who leads the line.

Asked in his pre-match press conference about Richarlison’s fitness, Ange replied: “Richarlison is fit. There are no issues with him. He didn't play against Shakhtar, but he was never going to, to be honest. We were always going to play two different 11s and he picked up a slight knock in training. He got through the Barca game really well.”

Speaking to SPURSPLAY on Friday, Ange said: “In the last two games, everyone has got through in decent shape. We had a couple of little knocks, but nothing that’s going to keep anyone out of the weekend.”

Bryan Mbeumo is fit for the Bees after being withdrawn during the first half of their final pre-season match against Lille last weekend with a dead leg, while Frank Onyeka will be assessed. Ivan Toney is suspended.

Who is the referee?

Robert Jones will take charge of Sunday’s game, assisted by Ian Hussin and Wade Smith.

The fourth official is Jarred Gillett.

Tony Harrington will be on VAR duty, assisted by Dan Robathan.

What colours will the teams be playing in?

Brentford will wear their usual red and black striped shirts with black shorts and black socks.

We’ll be in our brand new navy blue away kit, although due to a colour clash, we will wear alternate white socks instead of navy this weekend.

The Bees’ goalkeeper will wear pink, with ours in light blue.

What will the weather conditions be like?

It’s set to be a sunny day on Sunday, with temperatures at around 21 degrees when the game takes place.
