Ange Postecoglou is excited to see the impact of James Maddison on the team.

Signed from Leicester City earlier this summer, James has built a reputation over the last few years as one of the most productive midfielders in the Premier League -  only Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne (46) has been involved in more goals than Madders (39) in the last two seasons.

And the 26-year-old has already been showing glimpses of just what he can do in front of goal with a handful of assists in pre-season.

Having settled in to life at Hotspur Way in no time at all, it is clear he has also made an impression on Ange who, as we continue to prepare for Sunday's campaign opener against Brentford, is eager to see how the England international gets on in Lilywhite.

Watch - Maddison on Ange's key message

Speaking at Hotspur Way for the pre-match press conference ahead of his first Premier League encounter at Brentford, Ange said: “I was really excited to bring him into the group knowing what we needed to build here.

“He's been brilliant since he's come in to be fair not just in the games but in training. An area the club needed some bolstering was midfield threat in terms of goals and assists and Madders definitely provides that.”

The former Leicester City player put on an exhibition in front of our home supporters against Shakhtar Donetsk, showing his technical quality throughout and eye for a pass with a pinpoint cross for Harry Kane’s second goal in our 5-1 win in pre-season.

As our Premier League campaign kicks-off at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday, the England international will be central to Ange’s attacking play and keen to impress in our colours this season.

On working with our midfielder, Ange added: “He's been outstanding in the way he's embraced the Club and the way he's developing the kind of football we want to play.”
