Under-18s players learn important CPR skills, marking Ugo Ehiogu anniversary

Fri 21 April 2023, 13:05|Tottenham Hotspur

Representatives of the Justin Edinburgh 3 Foundation this week delivered a vital CPR and defibrillator training workshop to members of our Under-18s squad – poignantly timed as we today (Friday 21 April) remember our former Academy Coach Ugo Ehiogu on the six-year anniversary of his passing.

Set up in memory of our legendary former defender Justin Edinburgh following his death in 2019, the JE3 Foundation provides specialist training sessions across the country in order to raise public awareness of CPR and give people the ability and confidence to save lives.

This week’s workshop for our youth team, which served as part of our Academy’s off-field life skills programme, saw the players learn how to deliver CPR with Charlie Edinburgh – Justin’s son and CEO of the JE3 Foundation – on hand along with his staff to reinforce the importance of responding quickly if someone suffers a cardiac arrest.

Justin sadly passed away in such circumstances in June, 2019, at the age of 49, while our former Under-23s Coach Ugo lost his life in a similar way in April, 2017, aged 44.

Today marks six years since Ugo’s passing and, as has become a tradition at Hotspur Way, players and staff from the Academy gathered this morning to remember the former England defender and appreciate the legacy he has left.

Justin’s memory also lives on here at Spurs and at Leyton Orient, the club he guided back into the EFL shortly before his passing and who this week secured promotion once again to League One.

Following the Under-18s’ highly beneficial session, our Academy will continue to work with the JE3 Foundation to deliver similar training courses for its younger age groups in the months ahead.
