Ashleigh Neville was pleased with how we responded following last weekend’s north London derby defeat with a 2-1 win away to Reading Women on Sunday.

“After last week’s result against Arsenal, we were disappointed with that,” she said. “We’ve gone away, reflected, done a lot of analysis, and it’s shown today on the pitch, which is great from the girls.”

Neville benefitted from Eveliina Summoner’s quick thinking to put her through on the right wing for the first goal of the game.

“I saw her spot it and she saw my run and we were obviously on the same wavelength,” she said. “The defender thought I’d go with my right so I chopped in onto my left and I’m quite happy with the finish.”

Ash also played her part in the second goal, receiving a long pass over the top from keeper Becky Spencer.

“We spoke about it before the game. She said if she saw me go then she’d hit it and get me in behind and it paid off and the goal came from there.

“The girls have been really determined to put those things right from last week. We pressed really well, got in their faces, got two good goals and it’s just a shame at the end to concede one, but a win is a win and we go away with three points.

“The girls in midfield worked really hard. People putting in those kinds of tackles is what we want to see week in, week out. It sets the tone, so they did great.”

Next up, it’s an international break for some, and a normal training week for others before we welcoming Liverpool to Brisbane Road Stadium.

“We’ll go back to training, work on the things that we need to and then all come back together for our first home game against Liverpool,” Neville said. “We’re excited to be there. We haven’t played there yet, it’s a new ground and hopefully we’ll get loads of fans there and can make that our fortress.”
