Ben Davies pinpointed Ryan Sessegnon’s goal as the key moment in our comeback win at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Trailing 2-0 to Kieffer Moore’s double strike on 21 minutes and then four minutes into the second half, ‘Sess’ got us back into the game at the Vitality by racing onto Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s pass and slotting into the far corner for 2-1 on 57 minutes.

We’d already had the lion’s spell of possession up to that point, even trailing 2-0, but Ryan’s goal added an extra impetus and suddenly, victory looked on.

Ben played his part by heading home the equaliser from Ivan Perisic’s corner on 73 minutes and finally, after constant pressure and 18 corners, corner number 19 was met by Rodrigo Bentancur, his header was blocked before he calmly lofted home the rebound into the roof of the net for 3-2 in the third minute of added time.

Sometimes you need that momentum, something that can change the game and Sess produced a brilliant goal, a great finish, and after that we were desperate to win

After a couple of losses in the Premier League, and the disappointment of a last-second winner against Sporting Lisbon being ruled out by VAR just three days earlier, this just felt like a big moment.

“It’s massive for us, three points is three points, regardless of who you play, and it’s hopefully the start of another run,” Ben told SPURSPLAY afterwards. “It’s got us out of a bit of a mini-rut, and it was one of those where it didn’t really matter how it came, we needed those three points.

“It was one of those games where we had a lot of the ball, but when you go 1-0 behind you start to force it, start to play passes that aren’t really on, and we did that quite a lot.

“Even when it was 2-0, we didn’t stop believing we could win, but sometimes you need that momentum, something that can change the game and Sess produced a brilliant goal, a great finish, and after that we were desperate to win the game. They defended well, seemed to get their heads to everything, but we kept going, we didn’t care how it came, we worked hard, and we got the result. That now gives us confidence going into Marseille.”

We take on Olympique de Marseille in our final group game in the UEFA Champions League at the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday evening (8pm UK). All four teams could still progress from a tight Group D - we sit top of the group and need to avoid defeat to reach the knockout stage of the competition.
