First, the question. Then, the smile. Then…

“It was lucky.”

It’s Heung-Min Son’s stock answer to just about every goal he’s scored, this time a wonderful, pinpoint curler off his left foot into the top corner from 22 yards to make it 3-0 and put the issue beyond doubt against Leicester City in a key Premier League fixture on Sunday.

Sonny scored twice to take his tally to 19 league goals this season, his most for us in a Premier League campaign. He also provided an assist for Harry Kane’s opener in the first half.

“It was lucky... to hit top bin like that is... but if I’m honest, I practice so many shots, especially in this position,” Sonny told Spurs TV afterwards. “When I was a kid, I knew I’d play winger, so left foot, right foot, I tried so many shots from there, so when I score from that position, I’m more than happy.

“The hard work has paid off. I’ve tried so many shots from there, it’s my favourite position. As soon as I hit it, I could see the way the ball was flying, it was an incredible feeling. No-one expects a goal from there, but I was confident to shoot from there, left or right foot, and luckily the ball went into the top corner.”

For sure, after this goal, we can make a question - is he better with the right or the left foot?

Antonio Conte after Sonny's second goal against Leicester

The goal left Antonio Conte with a question himself. “I had a fantastic view of the goal, the way the ball was going into the high corner,” said Antonio. “We celebrated with the bench an amazing goal.

“For sure, after this goal, we can make a question – is he better with the right or the left foot? After this goal it’s very difficult to understand which is his favourite foot. He has to continue in this way because he’s playing an amazing season, but you know very well personal success isn’t important it, at the end of the season, you don’t reach your target.”

Just moments earlier, Sonny had said as much himself. “It's not important, is it? It’s not important, because I want to play Champions League next season, so scoring 19, 30, 25 goals, it’s not important for me, the team is most important.

“I do my best for the team and if I get a chance, I try to score. The numbers are not important. I want to finish well with these guys, this team, these supporters and play Champions League next season. This is more important than anything else at the moment.”

“I liked that he answers in this way,” added Antonio.
