Markanday nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Season

The Premier League has today announced the shortlist for the 2021/22 Premier League 2 Player of the Season – and our former midfielder Dilan Markanday is among the nominees.

Enjoying a fine first half of the campaign with our Development Squad, Markanday hit 12 goals and provided a further five assists in just 14 appearances in the competition prior to a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers in January.

In that period, the 20-year-old was also nominated twice for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award, first in August before he went on to win the October edition of the prize – recognition which came shortly after he made his first team debut for the Club in our 1-0 Europa Conference League loss to Vitesse in October.

Also up for the seasonal award is Liverpool’s Conor Bradley, Fulham’s Sonny Hilton, Manchester City’s James McAtee, Southampton’s Kazeem Olaigbe, Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak Sakyi and Norwich duo Tom Dickson-Peters and Abu Kamara.

Nominees were selected by the Premier League Football Development Panel - after Premier League 2 club coaches shortlisted the best performances by opposing players throughout the season - and they will also decide the winner, which is due to be announced next week.
