Antonio previews Sevilla – including latest team news

Fri 15 July 2022, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Fitness remains key as Antonio Conte prepares for our second and final pre-season match in Korea against Sevilla in the Coupang Play Series on Saturday.

After beating Team K League in our opener on Wednesday, we move from Seoul World Cup Stadium to the outskirts of the city and the Suwon World Cup Stadium, where we’ll face a Sevilla team that finished fourth in La Liga to quality, like us, for the UEFA Champions League.

We’ll also come up against a familiar face in Erik Lamela, who joined the Andalusia side last summer after eight years at Spurs. The match is available exclusively on SPURSPLAY.

First all, it’s important to improve the physical condition of the team

Speaking to us after his press conference on Friday afternoon local time, Antonio said: “It’s a good test for us because Sevilla are an important team in Spain, they play in the Champions League and they are at a high level.

“It will be a good test for us to see our improvement after important work in the first two weeks of the season. It’s also important because I also have the possibility of making some rotation and the possibility for players to play. First all, it’s important to improve the physical condition of the team.”

Ben Davies, Dejan Kulusevski and Ivan Perisic missed the first game through injury, and Antonio gave an update for the gathered media in Seoul.

“Deki Kulusevski and Ben Davies are available for tomorrow’s game,” he said. “Perisic has started to work with us, but with Ivan, we have to go step by step because the injury was a serious injury. It’s good he started to work with us and when we go back to London, he can be with us for all of the training sessions.

“For the game against Sevilla, I will change something and use this game at the start of the season to make many rotations and give the possibility for the players to play the game.”

Antonio said home hero Heung-Min Son will start having come off the bench and scoring twice against Team K League. He added: "For sure, I want to change something, but I repeat, I want to make rotations, pre-season is about trying to give opportunity to all players. Sonny will be starting."
