We're back up the M6/M65 to Lancashire this evening for our rearranged Premier League fixture against Burnley (7.30pm) - with a memorable victory over City and the wind in our sails, N17 Live presenter Ben Haines and Club commentator Rob Daly talk all things Turf Moor.
But first, a little look back at events at the Etihad...
City slickers
We couldn't start this preview without looking back at our magnificent, thrilling 3-2 win at City on Saturday...
Ben: "I honestly don't know how it could get any better... anyway enough about Rob's comms, onto the footy! That was one of the most beautiful away performances I've ever seen from Spurs. If I can be really tragic and quote something I threw into the mix last week - on our day we can beat anyone - and we had one of those days. Tactically perfect, defensively solid, ruthless on the counter-attack and a wonderful work ethic. The thing with this performance is that it was totally different to how we beat Leicester late on in January. We didn't need City to make mistakes, we were just brilliant every single time we got forward whilst being water tight at the back. What a difference Eric Dier made, how special was Cristian Romero too, and Dejan Kulusevski... and Harry, oof! How many more times is he going to show the world that writing him off is one of the silliest things you can ever do? I also loved seeing our away fans dragging that ball into the net, the way that section of the crowd at the Etihad is so perfectly visually split so you can see that moment where we erupted. There's something about us and City, we're almost permanently linked in our narratives. We always seem to find a way and credit to Antonio Conte and the team for once again finding a rather special way this time."
Rob: "The City win was extraordinary. Like Leicester, it’s the kind of victory that has you watching the highlights again and again. I’ll start with Harry Kane. It’s almost a shame the Premier League doesn’t have an award for the individual performance of the season - I haven’t seen anyone play better than that in 90 minutes this season and I’ll go as far as to say it’s the best I’ve seen Kane. Nearly every touch, run, challenge, flick on, pass and attempt on goal paid off. 10/10. So much to touch upon, like how good the reunited three of Dier, Romero and Ben Davies were, the calm and quality of Rodrigo Bentancur and Kulusevski, Heung-Min Son doing City damage again, Conte’s celebrations and Hugo Lloris’ second half saves. It’s a huge three points that’s blown open the title race, kept Spurs in the top four hunt and given the team a huge lift. Let’s hope they keep giving me crazy moments to commentate on! Oh, and I loved Conte’s edit of the Spurs attacking play on Instagram! He’s right to highlight those goals were not all counter-attacks. The team were bold playing out from the back, while working the ball quickly in to Kane to link the play. It was thrilling to watch."
Watch it all again!
Moor the merrier
So, were back at Turf Moor again after November's clash fell victim to a late snow flurry in Lancashire. How do the chaps feel it will pan out this time?
Ben: "So, Burnley... the key thing here is that we don't stop now. We had such a brilliant result against Leicester a few weeks back and then struggled to maintain momentum. Where we need to be strong is in the way we now switch game plans. Burnley are going to be hard to break down. We haven't scored more than one at Turf Moor since 2017 so a careful transition from counter-attack to more composed front foot football is very much needed, particularly with the way they dispatched Brighton at the weekend. Wout Weghorst is a fantastic addition to their side, he adds a craft and guile that at times Burnley have missed when they've looked to play direct in the past. Maxwel Cornet has also been excellent for them, Josh Brownhill is a very underrated midfielder and it will of course be wonderful for us Spurs fans to see Aaron Lennon again. What a player he was for us. We have to win this game to keep pace with the others around us, the race for the top four goes on, but games like this could make all the difference at the end of the season."
Rob: "Burnley have only won twice this season in the league, which seems crazy, but Sean Dyche has always remained confident that they’ll get out of trouble. I think they did one of the best pieces of January business. I commentate on the Bundesliga and picking up Wout Weghorst for that price (a reported £12m) to replace Chris Wood was inspired. He’s strong, a fighter, outstanding in the air and a really good finisher. The Dutchman provides a very different test to City’s smaller, more mobile and fluid attack but I can see Dier and Romero, based on Saturday’s performance, coping with him. Expect the usual 4-4-2 from Burnley with direct and physical play. Stats show they’re the antithesis of City, but it’s a style that brings results and has done for some time. Just ask Brighton, who they beat 3-0 away last time out. That was massive for them."
