Legendary Tottenham Hotspur skipper Steve Perryman will be visiting the Spurs Shop in Harlow tomorrow, Saturday 10 December, to sign copies of a brand-new book commemorating Tottenham Hotspur’s iconic 1981 FA Cup triumph.

‘81: The year that changed our lives’ is a beautiful coffee table book written by Steve in partnership with accomplished writer and Spurs fan Julie Welch and published by the team behind ’61: The Spurs Double’, ‘The Lane’ and ‘The Spurs Shirt’.

Packed with evocative photography and original memorabilia, over the course of its 224 pages Steve tells the story of the 1981 cup run, from the building of Keith Burkinshaw’s legendary team - Hoddle, Ardiles, Crooks, Archibald and all - to the FA Cup Final replay at Wembley when Ricky Villa won the cup with the greatest-ever cup final goal.

“It’s now more than 40 years since I lifted the cup at Wembley,” says Steve. “But not a day goes by when I am not reminded by Spurs fans of how much that 1981 triumph meant to them. I hope this book brings back many joyful memories and also opens a window to an iconic era to new or younger Spurs fans who were not there at the time.

“When I eventually lifted the cup, I remember one Spurs supporter jumped from about six rows above me to give me a hug. He could have broken his leg but he wouldn’t have felt it. That’s how much it meant and to deliver that joy was an incredible feeling.”

‘81: The year that changed our lives’ by Steve Perryman with Julie Welch (price £40) is available from the Spurs Shop, both online and in-store. Steve will be at the Harlow Spurs Shop (located in the Harvey Centre) tomorrow, Saturday 10 December, between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, to sign copies of this book as well as his autobiography, ‘Steve Perryman: A Spur Forever’ (£30).
