Shelina Zadorsky, Ashleigh Neville, Rosella Ayane and Molly Bartrip got to grips with one of the USA’s most popular sports on Tuesday afternoon (16 August) – baseball.

Paying a visit to the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory in Kentucky, our players explored the world of baseball at what is one of the sport’s oldest bat manufacturers in the United States.

Having started producing bats in 1884, the museum and factory showcases the story of Louisville Slugger baseball bats in the sport and American history, while it continues to produce bats to this day.

As part of the tour, the players, alongside Club Ambassador Ledley King, visited the bat vault which holds more than 3,000 original bat models from across the years – some of which were created by greats of the game, including Babe Ruth. They were also shown around the factory, seeing the process of how a single piece of wood is taken before being carved into the final piece.

The group then tried their hand with a bat as they took up their places in the batting cages, returning a series of fastballs with a Louisville Slugger.

Speaking after the visit, Shelina said: “Visiting the Louisville Slugger Museum was a fantastic experience today. It was great to be able to head out into the city and visit one of the top cultural attractions in the local area. We had a lot of fun touring the factory and trying our hand at the batting cage.”
