Antonio previews Wolves: "I give great respect to them"

Fri 19 August 2022, 15:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Antonio Conte has spoken of his respect for Wolves ahead of Saturday's Premier League encounter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (12.30pm).

Bruno Lage's team finished 10th last season, have boosted their ranks this week with the arrivals of Matheus Nunes from Sporting and Goncalo Guedes from Valencia - both Portugal internationals - and, as Antonio was reminded in his press conference, beat us 2-0 in this corresponding match last season.

It will be difficult, but it's very important after the draw against Chelsea to get the three points

"First of all, we are talking about a really good team and a good club, a club that in the last week has signed two important players like Guedes from Valencia and then Nunes from Sporting Lisbon," said Antonio.

"It means that they have a lot of ambition, I have a great respect for Wolverhampton and their players, Ruben Neves and many, many good players with a good coach, I give great respect to them because they are doing very well and for sure the game will be difficult for us. The recent past is also important for us, to understand that the game, it won't be easy tomorrow."

It was a similar story to our first opponents this season, Southampton, who beat us at home last season, only for us to sweep to a 4-1 win a fortnight ago.

Asked about the importance of home matches in his preview on SPURSPLAY, Antonio told us: "A team with ambition, you have to think to win in every game, and, for sure, when you play at home, you have to exploit the support of our fans and the atmosphere around the stadium.

"At home, it's very important to create the right atmosphere to make it difficult for our opponent. It will be a difficult game against Wolves but, at the same time, we are ready to play a good game in front of our fans."
