Golden Boot/Playmaker - Harry on his 'double' and where feat stands in PL/Spurs history

Mon 24 May 2021, 16:40|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane joined an elite band of players by finishing top goalscorer and assist-maker in the same season in the Premier League.

The striker took his third Golden Boot with his 23rd goal of the campaign in our 4-2 win at Leicester City on Sunday. He also claimed the Playmaker title by setting up the first of Gareth Bale's goals at the KP, his 14th assist of 20/21.

Only two players had previously achieved the 'double' in the same season - Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink with 18 goals (joint-most with Michael Owen and Dwight Yorke) and 13 assists (joint with Dennis Bergkamp) in 1998/99 and Andy Cole with 34 goals and 13 assists in 1993/94.

Speaking to us on Monday, Harry expressed his delight. "It felt really good to come away with the Golden Boot and the Playmaker award, and obviously big thanks to my team-mates, all the staff and coaches, Jose and Ryan. It's been a tough season for everyone as a team but for me personally, it's nice to come away with a couple of awards, and great to get that win as well."

Harry remains one of only two players to win more than two Golden Boots at Spurs. The great Jimmy Greaves finished top goalscorer in English football's top flight four times, Harry has now achieved the feat on three occasions - 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2020/21.

As a Club, we've had a player at the top of the goalscoring chart in the top flight (old First Division/Premier League) on 12 occasions.

Bobby Smith was our first leading marksman in 1957/58, followed by Greavsie's four, Steve Archibald, Clive Allen, Gary Lineker, Teddy Sheringham and now Harry's treble.
