Internationals – Pierre helps Denmark into last 16 as all our players progress at Euro 2020

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg provided two assists to help Denmark to a fairytale win over Russia in Copenhagen on Monday night – a result that means all of our players at Euro 2020 have now qualified for the knockout stages.

Putting in another 90-minute shift in central midfield, Pierre teed up Mikkel Damsgaard for his stunning long-range opener before later setting up Joakim Maehle to complete a 4-1 triumph, with the three points gained proving enough to send the Danes through as runners-up in Group B.

Yussuf Poulsen and Andreas Christensen were also on target, while Artem Dzyuba had briefly made it 2-1 with Russia’s only goal from the penalty spot.

Already-qualified Belgium were victorious in the other game in Denmark’s group in St Petersburg on Monday, defeating Finland 2-0 to keep up their 100 per cent record at the tournament. Toby Alderweireld wasn’t in the Red Devils’ squad as they made wholesale changes for the game.

The results mean Finland have finished third in Group B with three points, behind Denmark on goal difference – and that in turn means that Harry Kane’s England are guaranteed a place in the knockout stages with a game to spare, with their four points in Group D sufficient to take them through as one of the four best-performing third-place teams in the event that they were to drop out of the top two during tonight’s round of fixtures.

Equally, Hugo Lloris and Moussa Sissoko cannot finish lower than third in Group F with France and already have the required four points, while Ben Davies, Gareth Bale and Joe Rodon secured qualification with Wales as runners-up in Group A on Sunday.

Congratulations to all of our players for making it through to the next stage!

Overnight into Tuesday morning, Argentina booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Copa America with a 1-0 victory over Paraguay in Brasilia, but Giovani Lo Celso missed out due to injury.
